Laptop Power cord Repair advice.
There are several things that can happen to a laptop power cord. Most of them are pretty easy to repair with a basic knowledge of electronics and some basic wiring and soldering ability, as well as a few inexpensive tools. You may already have most of these tools sitting around. The first thing you should do is determine where the issue is at. Most of the time, it will either be in the boxed part of the power adapter or the actual cord running to the laptop itself. You can pick up everything you need at any hardware store or electronics store. You will need solder, a soldering iron, wire strippers, electrical tape and heat shrink. Please note that you should always have everything unplugged and give everything a few minutes to sit and discharge before attempting to repair it. If you aren’t comfortable making the repairs, a new power supply generally isn’t very expensive. To repair one that has the power cord leading to the laptop damaged, you will need to cleanly cut and strip the wires, and solder the wires that are alike together, and insulate these wires using electrical tape and heat shrink tubing. Be sure that no wires in the power cord are touching each other. Heat shrink tubing can easily be secured to the wires by using a hair dryer or heat gun. You can also just get a hot soldering iron close to it to compress the heat shrink tubing. I would also recommend wrapping black electrical tape around the repair to strengthen the site of the repair. To repair a laptop power cord with a problem inside the box, you must first disassemble the casing surrounding the power supply case. You will probably need a small screwdriver to take it apart. Once you have it apart, inspect the wiring to make sure no wires have come unsoldered from the circuit board. If they have, you may be able to repair it by simply resoldering the connections. It’s also possible the wiring may be frayed at this point, as this part generally undergoes a lot of flexing and stress. Posted by: www.gopartsonline.com
